I Really Love...

Sleeping in a warm bed in a cold room.

Vegetable fajitas from La Fiesta.

The Blue Bird bubble necklace I won from Carissa's giveaway. Score!!

Watching my kids play in the snow {from the warmth of my parents' house}.

This song.

And this one.

Cory in his Elmer Fudd snow hat.

Gratuitous pops of orangey red.

The bright opportunity to sit still with my thoughts.

This book. (Still. It's meaty, people!)
"I am being told anew in the unmistakable language of love, 'I am with you, I am for you, I am in you. I expect more failure from you than you expect from yourself."  {deep sigh}

Little kid prayers. (I'm especially hooked on my niece's today.)

My new mittens.

Me: (skyping with Keisha, holding my mittened hands up to the camera) See what Cory got me for Christmas?
Keisha: Oh...oven mitts?
Me: Crap.

It's not their fault that they look like oven mitts. I blame the claws.

They had to be custom made since the regular ladies' mittens wouldn't fit. Cory had her size his hand "then add some extra". Reportedly, the lady insisted, "These will never, ever fit your wife! They couldn't possibly fit a woman's hands!"

Oh, girl.
But bless you for thinking so.

What are you really loving today?

  2. Lol, your oven mitt story made me laugh. Gorgeous picture of you! I am currently loving smallish moments of quiet ( two babies under 2 makes this rare), John Mayer's Born and Raised album, pretend play with my daughter, Parenthood episodes, and Christy Nockels " Waiting here for you".

    1. I'm also 5'10", but any proportionateness (yep) is rendered irrelevant by the fact that I have toothpick arms.

  8. I LOVE your fabulous new necklace and those mittens. They are perfect in their oven-mittedness. I am currently loving holding my new baby girl. I have not put her down much. Everyone who visits keeps telling me I will regret it when she is spoiled and wants to be held all the time, but we will cross that bridge when we come to it.

  11. While I have always had a special place for Philips, Craig, and Dean... you MUST listen to Jared Anderson's (the writer) version. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cPb1OwqplR8

Who knows if that link will work. Either way, check it out on youtube...I CANNOT sing this in church (or in my car, or shower, etc) without crying. Not. Once. Ever.

    Missin' ya.

  13. Your oven mitt story made me laugh out loud, cause I have a similar one... my head size. Seriously, I was getting a bike helmet from friends and I told them to make sure it was an XXL, the guy had one in stock and told them it would never fit me, he had never sold one. Yup, it swims on my husband and fits me just right. so funny, but so awful cause I love the idea of buying a nice hat but it just never ever fits. I feel your hand pain!

  14. I am loving the snow and getting to stay home with my babies. I'm also loving reading your blog and staying caught up with you when we can't catch up in person. I heard from Lee Bob the other day. Did you know they just brought home baby boy #3? It was so good to hear from him. Glad you've had a good Christmas, and from one big handed gal to another, I love the mittens!

  16. So much to love in the week after Christmas!
    Shall I make a list?

    Sure, for you, I will!

    - Bright, bold bluejays in the white snow.
    - being able to see the tree skirt again
    - the last, very last, moments of Christmas lights
    - holiday meal leftovers, frozen, now thawed and up for another round
    - Starbucks salted caramel cocoa scored in the $5 gift exchange
    - fuzzy slippers scored by my son in the $5 gift exchange, and scornfully passed on to me - yeah!
    - sipping coffee and working the holiday jigsaw puzzle - only 3,218 pieces left to go...

I'll take those oven mitts! LOL and for whatever reason, gratuitous pops of orangey red made me snort.

      Okay, that was a lie.

But you'd be surprised what you can pull off when all you're doing is running outside and smiling for a few photos before retreating back indoors.

  20. I like your mittens and I was wondering if you play the piano. Long fingers or big hands are great for that because then you have a wider key range at the same time.
