Money Shot Monday: Cocoa Dog

We spent the morning with a cute little friend, deciphering baby gibberish and decoding the mysteries of cloth diapers.

We spent the evening (Cory and I) eating dinner at one of those Amish "restaurants" where you sit at long tables in the basement of an Amish home and eat roast beef and noodles and homemade bread with jam off Corelleware plates, circa 1980.

It was a good day.

But my Money happened right in the middle, sharing cups of cocoa and cinnamon toast with my three favorite short people. Calvin told jokes, "What do you call a 3 ducks in a box? A box of quackers!" Ruby said the cocoa tasted like hot dogs and  drank it anyway.

The first real flakes of snow fell fat to the ground and we all knew we were lucky.

Right now the days feel both long and short. There's a lot to do and no desire to do it.

Moments like these are my grounding force. These faces chase my blues away even as they're causing them. They're a wonder, a  miracle. They're all I ever wanted.

How 'bout you?

  2. Well, between the regular daily drama we found a package at the back door addressed to one wild girl containing a life size Tinkerbell coloring book that bought me 30 minutes of pure coloring bliss. You know, until a crayon snapped and the girl right along with it.

    you know.

    1. Just discovered on the side of Calvin's white dresser the following:
      "S L i S L a"

I don't think I even need to hold a random line-up to solve this mystery.

      Amen.

    1. You know, it was a HARD day. But I'm learning (slowwwwly) that hard days can be good days. It's just a matter of finding that one great moment, capturing it, and carrying it around 'til the end of the day. That's the spirit of MSM. :)

  4. Love :) Even if it tasted like weiners. Love.

So, I didn't really know you were doing a linky for MSM. But, I did a 10 on 10 post today... and the "kitchen dance party" pic was money. Does that count?

  7. I love when you share glimpses of the Amish & Mennonite life around you. Did you have a Christmas banquet in the basement?? The pic of the Tonn's Honey the other day? I know the Mennonite family that owns the business here in good ole Holmes County :)

  8. These quiet moments are the ones you'll cherish! Enjoy these terrible, horrible, wonderful, exhausting days - they are fleeting! Love your beautiful family and the funny little glimpses you share with us!

PS. I didn't cheat on my MSM, I made sure to pick a photo I took this morning :)

  10. My MSM was at 7:10 am yesterday! We had a mouse and before I left for work, the boys set up an army of Lego warriors which lined the double doors of my laundry closet. It was a trap to see if the mouse had ventured out into the kitchen while we were gone :). Only boys!!! Good news, when we got home.....the Legos untouched. Bad news....the mouse still on the loose!!

Love the cocoa pic and those smiling faces!
    XOXO. heather

  11. Guess what? Twelve years ago, our rehearsal dinner was at one of those "Amish Restaurants" as you call it. Yep. I said that right. And what a Ruby- Hot Dog flavoring your Hot Chocolate. Yikes. Not sure I would have finished that, snowflakes or not.

  12. Those Amish restaurants are TO DIE FOR. I don't know about Indiana Amish restaurants, but at many here in good ole Ohio, they have pie samplers. Did you read that correctly? Why yes you did! $3.99 for THREE flavors of pie? Yes and please.

  14. Ha! Linking in on Tuesday to the Monday Fun! Why can't I seem to follow the rules properly?
We also had some snow, a teensy bit, yesterday. There was not fatness, though, with the flakes at least - they were the round pellet sort. Any port in a storm though! We ran out into it anyway!

-Quackers Joke - right up my alley! Send more jokes!
    - Hot Dog tasting hot chocolate - what a hardy soul to continue to drink something like that!

    Blessings,

    s

    1. No sweat! Most people will link on Tuesdays because I post MSM VEDDY late. What I'm trying to say is, I make the rules almost impossible to follow. :) I always leave these open through Friday. You've got all the time in the world! And if you happen to post a Wed. or Thurs. Money Shot, it's all good!

This is my very thought and struggle put so perfectly. I needed to hear it from another mamma. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

  16. Oh yes - these days feel long and short. They feel long until I look at the calendar or have to buy the boys new shoes or jeans because they grew - and then they feel short. Too short.
