MSM: The Day I Kicked My Rules in the Teeth

Straight up: This photo isn't from today.

I didn't even take it. It's not seasonal. Yada. But my life could use a little dreamy pomegranate-red right about now. Couldn't yours?

I considered (again) today that maybe MSM just wasn't meant to fly. I spent 7 straight hours today shuttling kids to doctor's appointments then capped my evening off by picking up three new prescriptions. If I sound like a broken record, well, it takes one to know one. (Now I'm just being bratty.)

So, I haven't picked up the camera today.

But I scrape off the grime and scratch the grit off with my nails and would you believe it? Some beauty. Still.

Some days we just have to strain our eyes.

This is why I can't walk away from the Money. Even if you and I are the only two people reading it. Even if most people skip it and many still don't understand it. This is for me. And for you. (But you kind of have to want it.)

** Cinnamon French toast for breakfast.
** Reading Siley his favorite Christmas book.
** The doctor interupting her own train of thought to look me straight in the eye and say, "I really like your make-up. It's not overdone. It's perfect." (Say WHAT? I'll take it.)
** Both of today's docs being WOMEN. #girlpower!
** Funny Robert updates.
** Ruby rocking a side pony-tail by request.

There's all kinds of grace happening here today. (And forever.) So link up if you'd like to, or just throw caution to the wind and let it rip in the comments.

  1. Today's beauty: masking-taped on Christmas tree ornament (shiny red apple) earrings. My girl rocked them.

  2. For me it was my husband and son reading together on the floor.

  3. That's a nice compliment from the doctor!

My goodness was being crazy with my family and letting them crown me with owl hat. I think this means I'm queen of crazy.

  4. My daughter and I make paper chain, with construction paper, to countdown the days to Christmas every year. This year we did it up with glitter. Her hand was completely covered in all colors of glitter. It was sweet, and messy, and beautiful. I took a photo.

ps - I would link a pic, but I have no idea how to do that.

    3. OK, I'm shameless and a little crazy determined to learn and figure new things out. I created a very impromptu post on my blog, so that I could get the glitter hand pic to link up here. I did it! My girl is nine, and that's her hand all covered in glitter. Thanks! :)

    1. "Do you remember the tablecloth?" I have the strange sense that I ...should? (What IS this? And why don't I remember it?)Be honest, am I having a Senior Moment here? (I blame the glands.)

  8. I'm so with you, its not even funny. My Mondays have improved by like 150%. I declare I had like 7 money shot moments today and they were so pleasant that I didn't even worry with whether or not I got the shot! For me, that's the power of MSM. I'm seeing them everywhere I look...I just have to remember to look.

You keep on, FPFG. I'm so glad you were well enough to do the run around all day. And officially diagnosed with pretty make-up, too. By a Dr. You are impressive.

I'm still laughing about Cory's Taco Bell runs. But not your record-breaking glands. Yikes. I'm glad you shared the photo, though, it motivated me to get Jesus on the mainline ASAP.

I'll link up in the AM. Its lights out around here. Thanks for the Monday merriment!

  9. Diagnosed with pretty makeup Heehee! :)
I've gotten where I tell lots of people their makeup looks pretty.
Because you only see somebody like ONCE A WEEK wearing any!!
I want to encourage the good behavior! :)

  10. Update: I am reading your comments on the couch and giggling out loud. Cory is sitting on the kitchen floor cutting out LARGE/weird/adorbs pictures of the kids then taping them on the walls to surprise them in the a.m. I keep giggling. He keeps saying, "what??"

You guys are so funny and so very, very random. Never, ever stop!

  11. Lucy and I made flour and salt ornaments this morning but she ended up playing with the extra remnants all day long. I had a sweet content toddler on my hands nearly all day- what a gift!

    1. I find it entirely ridiculous that I've been awake since 7 a.m. My glands aren't quite as large-and-in-charge as they were yesterday, but still pretty offensive. I feel well, then deathly. It rolls in waves. Also, my left ear just started hurting about an hour ago.

      Glad you asked??

      :)

  13. Today has been a really stinky day....my beauty came in an unexpected trip to town during which the sun came out from behind the clouds - God's glory and a much needed source of grace :) Sounds like you are on the mend - yay! You also reminded me that I need to get another letter in the mail - thank you!

  14. My day started out simple, but great. Peanut butter Cheerios and reading with my two boys. (Then the oldest went to preschool - hoo-rah!) But the afternoon was a little rough, and I almost didn't post a MSM link. Thanks for getting me out of my little funk by kicking the rules in the teeth today. I just kicked my sad mood in the teeth. :)

  15. oh man.. i knew i should have taken a picture.. 5 words for you.. i made SALTED CARAMEL CHOCOLATE CHEESESCAKE TRUFFLES. um yes. throwing caution to the wind-- and the scales. :) it would be a toss up between that and arianna watching youtube videos of "dog dancing" and then practicing on poor charlie the puppy who has no desire to be 'the next champion of the dog dancing world'. beauty is everywhere. ;)

  16. I love love me some MSM. It's interesting how looking for something good makes all manner of good pop up :)

I'm so very sorry for your glandular situation but am glad you are staggering toward recovery! Here's hoping you - and yours - rest well tonight!

  17. Thankful for the sweet moments, too. :) (And, yes, YAY for women doctors!) Hope you're all feeling well soon!

  20. Well, I've been trying to decorate my mantel for a week. A week! What's up with that? I don't like change and that's what I'm doing - changing it up. Yay on the make up compliment.

I had the mumps when I was little. One side and then the other. I looked like a wop-sided chipmunk.

There are pics of a little T-Rex on my blog. You should go see her. Just watch your fingers. ;)

  21. The beauty in today:

-Getting a lot of stuff done at work
-A mean guy making me cry at work, and my boss simply accepting the fact that I am a crybaby and tossing a box of tissues at me
-A mean patron making my colleague cry at work, thus making me realize I am not a failure, and not the only one who does it
-My colleague and I remembering that hey, at least we have jobs that we can go to, where people make us cry.
-Using our new Dyson to vacuum up Christmas tree debris
-The soft twinkle of lights on the Christmas tree, reminding me of Christmases past
-Reading your post, Farmgirl! Your generosity and love are powerful forces.

  22. Dr. approved makeup! I don't really think you'd want to see a pic of this but for the 1st time in my life I burned 753 calores in spin class...followed by Veal Piccatta over pasta and roasted asparagus! How's that for undoing! Glad your on the mend.

  23. My beauty was in a strong-headed 8-year-old who insisted the dress I had her try on had an "ugly pattern" and she refused to wear it, even for two hours for her Christmas Program. Girl has her own sense of style and I must admit that it almost always works! (Girl also has her mama's strong-headedness)

My other beauty was in a heart-to-heart conversation at bedtime with my 12-year-old who admitted last night (complete with tears) that he worries about our money and stresses of his school projects and other deadlines. He's my gentle soul....sensitive and kind. But he worries too much, always has. I reminded him God has always provided, I work to provide and as far as school goes, he's got family to help him through that as well.

They're definitely opposites. They're definitely my beauty in each and every day.

    Mollie :)

    Downton Abbey with Dave.
    Coffee.
    Warm weather!

  25. Well hey!! They're your rules, so go ahead and kick em!!!! I happen to love your MSM!!! Who cares if it's not technically a pic from that day, or your pic at all.....it's still a pic and it's on a monday, so there!! lol

Beauty and grace all around!! I will happily strain my eyes to see it if that's what must happen!!!

Hope you are feeling better - how are those glands??????

  27. 56 degrees in Minnesota in December. Kids jumping on the trampoline. Dinner with my parents and brother and sister-in-law, sans kids. Dance party with my husband's brother, wife, our 4 kids, and their 2, dancing to Mumford's "awake my soul" or whatever that song is called. The probability of getting Christmas cards out before March. And, for real, reading blogs by so many amazing souls, yours included. After the Word, it totally feeds my social soul. :) xoxo

  28. Funny you should post this today because my beauty came through vanity. It's rare that I feel pretty outside. I mostly always feel pretty inside. However, a trip to the stylist for a hair trim and eyebrow coloring can do wonders for ones vanity, I mean self-esteem.

  31. Your honesty kills me. "I didn't even take it". I love it. That's what happens when you're in charge of making the rules! You can toss 'em as you please.

I linked up with a money shot. In short, my day included a very large zit, a cranky kiddo, laundry up to my knees, and footie pjs. Siah's, not mine. ;)

    Yay Robert!
